Simplified Overview – Principle 26
Goal: To teach the core principles of language arts and ingrain it so they remember much better with meaningful service. Also to help the youth learn the great joy that comes from serving others.
Note: Usually before beginning this section of the day, an instructor can do one of the following for 3-5 minutes:
- Instruct the students of the process, why and how to use this curriculum.
- An inspirational example of a principle in action.
- Showcase the work of another student, parent, or other (video, book, object lesson, etc)
The purpose of this introduction is to remove obstacles (I don’t know how; It’s too hard; etc.) and inspire (jumpstart) individual thinking and creativity. How to use it: (refer to the downloaded sample pages above)
- Exercise 1 (day one, or you can move faster if you are comfortable with the principle): Memorize the principle, and think about who you will do the service project for. Start filling out page 3 if you have a good idea who and what you want to do.
- Exercise 2 (day 2): Apply the principle in the scriptures. Update page 3 with any more information you might have.
- Exercise 3 (day 3): Create your own service project using the principle learned. Finish up page three “My Experience of Doing a Service Project…”

- Multiple senses are used during the students study period. Background music is played like baroque classical music, piano, or other none lyrical, or sing along tunes.
- During the last 10 minutes of the class, the instructor reads from a novel as the students continue working on their problems. No interaction or questions are answered during this time period for the following reasons:
- Students are encouraged to self-govern themselves and seek for answers to their problems on their own, learning to seek the holy spirit for inspiration, and also learning to do other things they know they CAN do. Sometimes in life, we run into problems and there is only use to solve them. How we do this is what we practice during these few minutes. (self and God through his holy spirit).
