How to participate in discussions

Discussions are a place where students can get together before or after class and connect. We hope this allows you to feel a greater sense of community with others who are participating in the Kimber Academy Distance Learning Program.

When using a discussion board, please stay on topic. If you want to simply chat with friends about their hobbies and the like, you can head to the general discussion board and post there. However, if you are on the Math discussion board in a discussion about fractions, please only talk about fractions. Any off topic posts will be deleted and we invite you to flag or report any off topic comments.

If you would like to participate in an already existing discussion, simply select the discussion and click in the comment box. Fill in the necessary personal information or sign in with one of your accounts to post. We ask that you NOT share last names unless you have parent permission to do so.

How to start a new discussion

If a discussion doesn't exist on the topic you would like to discuss, please start a new one! At the top of the discussion board of your choice you should see a link to "Start a new discussion". Once clicked you will be directed to a page where you will fill in the following fields:

  1. Subject – Enter the Subject for your discussion. Please keep in mind that any posts deemed off-topic will be removed so make your subject as general or as specific as you feel is necessary for what you would like to discuss.
  2. Discussion Section – Select the discussion section that your subject is relevant to (ie, math, language arts, science, etc.). Off-topic discussions will be moved or removed entirely.
  3. Question or Message – This is where you determine the details of your subject for discussion. This will always remain at the top of the discusion page to help ensure that comments remain relevant.

Once you have those three fields filled in, click the "Save" button at the bottom and you're done! Now others will be able to see your discussion listed and participate.

We hope that this will be a helpful and enjoyable resource for our Distance Learners. Please do not abuse the system with nonsensical, hurtful, or irrelevant posts. Maintain the spirit of Kimber Academy by being respectful and helpful.
